Chequered Tiles

Chequered tiles are cement tiles or terrazzo tiles with the centre to centre distance of chequers not less than 25 mm and not more than 50 rom, the groves in the chequers being uniform and straight with the depth of grooves not less than 3 mm. The specification for chequered cement concrete tiles shall conform with IS: 13801(2013) as given below:

1. Materials:
   • Cements:Cement used in the manufacture of tiles shall conform to the respective IS codes
     1. Ordinary Portland Cement: IS 269:1989
     2. Rapid hardening Portland cement: IS 8041:1990
     3. White Portland cement: IS 8042:1989
     4. Portland pozzolana cement (flash-based): IS 1489 (Part 1)
     5. Portland pozzolana cement (calcined clay primarily based): IS 1489 (Part 2)
   • Aggregates: Aggregates used inside the backing layer of tiles shall agree to the requirements of IS 383. For the wearing layer, until otherwise particular,  aggregates shall include marble chips or any other herbal stone chips of comparable characteristics and hardness, marble powder or dolomite powder, or a mixture of the two.
   • Pigments:
     Pigments, artificial or otherwise, used for colouring tiles shall have long-lasting shade. It shall not contain matters adverse to concrete and shall in keeping with the colour required be one of the following or their combination:
     1. The pigments shall now not comprise zinc compounds or organic dyes.
     2. Lead pigments shall not be used except otherwise detailed via the customer.
2. Dimensions:
   The thickness will be measured at two factors situated about 50 mm from the ends on the fracture line of the tile that becomes tested for wet transverse power consistent with IS 12.6. The total thickness is the mathematics implies of those measurements.

1. Tolerances:
   • Length/ breadth: ±1 mm
   • The difference in period/breadth between the longest aspect and the shortest side inside the pattern shall now not exceed 1 mm
   • Thickness: +5 mm of the minimum thickness
   • The difference in thickness among the thickest and the thinnest tile within the sample shall not exceed 3 mm.

   • The flatness of the Tile Surface
   • Perpendicularity
   • Straightness
   • Average Water Absorption ≤ 10%
   • Average wet transverse strength ≥ 3 N/mm²
